Before You Travel

2026 SEASON:

Subject to canal closures and water levels, we plan to go north from Sillery, just south of Reims, up the Oise and Sambre canals through Brussels and around Belgium, heading south on the Meuse, and then down the Canal de l'Est and the Soane back into our home port of Saint Sympherion.

DRESS: Informal. Travel light, soft luggage recommended: limited storage on board – slacks, shorts, sweater, rain gear, non-slip deck shoes, sun hat and sun lotion. Small binoculars prove very useful. Clean towels, bedding etc. are provided for incoming guests.

CASH: bring cash in Euros for the kitty. Bank machines are common and accept Canadian bank cards.

EXPENSES: Guests share household expenses such as food and wine, laundry, mooring costs, etc. All on board, including Captain, contribute to a household fund administered by Chancellor of the Exchequer (Guest by Appointment).

DUTIES: Guests, Captain and crew all pitch in with duties including provisioning, meal preparation and housekeeping.  The Captain and crew are mainly responsible for operating the barge.  The guests are primarily responsible for meal preparation and housekeeping.
